A Little Information about the Areas We Serve
All along the coast of California, travelers find communities that each exhibit their own charm and ambience. Ventura is no exception and, in fact, is often cited as a stand alone experience that epitomizes the California of days gone bye, while simultaneously providing amenities found in much more urban settings.
Visitors to Ventura enjoy the abundant arts and cultural activities, outdoor adventures and the rich fusion of agricultural abundance and ocean side proximity that make it a chef's paradise. The Channel Islands National Park lies just off shore as does a National Marine Sanctuary. The Los Padres National Forest is found in Ventura's foothills while two of California's longest flowing open rivers help to form the city's boundaries. As the official tourism authority of Ventura, let us help you plan your stay in Ventura. In this site you will find information on hotels, attractions, activities and dining.
Ventura is just an hour's drive from Los Angeles and Hollywood. Ventura is located along the scenic southern-most part of California's Central Coast. Year round daytime temperatures average 70 degrees F (21 degrees C) so it's no wonder early Spanish settlers dubbed Ventura the "land of endless summers". Come to Ventura and discover the Real California.
Camarillo and the surrounding area has a temperate and livable climate, often referred to as a Mediterranean climate. Its location in a coastal valley brings mild ocean breezes and temperatures in the 70's throughout most of the year. An average rainfall of 13 inches (330 mm) occurs primarily from November to February. The city has over 300 days of sunshine a year and an average humidity of 62%.
Snow has only fallen about 3 times in the last thirty years and is seldom more than a dusting. Snow is often visible during the winter months above the 4,000-foot (1,200 m) level in the mountains to the north. The proximity of the ocean sometimes causes morning fog in the spring and early summer.
Camarillo is primarily a bedroom community made up of large housing tracts, with elementary schools and small strip malls serving the nearby neighborhoods. The primary public high schools serving Camarillo are Adolfo Camarillo High School in Mission Oaks and Rio Mesa High School, just over the Oxnard/Camarillo line. A new high school near the intersection of Lewis Road and Las Posas Road is planned. The private Cornerstone Christian School is also located in Camarillo. The YMCA recently opened a new facility on Village at the Park Drive, and a new library was constructed and opened on March 31, 2007.
The incidence of all types of crime committed in the city is far below the national average. Ventura County crime rates in general are low, and have fallen in the last 2 years, from 2007 to 2008, according to FBI reports of cities with 100,000 or greater population.
Many sports leagues, including adult leagues, such as baseball, basketball, football, and the largest AYSO soccer league west of the Mississippi are located in Camarillo. An outdoor in-line hockey rink was recently put into Freedom Park, near the Camarillo Airport.
Yes, Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world, and the streets of Hollywood often feel like the world's biggest reality show. But the City of Angels also sits squarely at the center of many global enterprises, including the fashion industry, the culinary arts, international trade, science, medicine, technology, and the visual and performing arts. The United States' second largest city, Los Angeles is also one of its most diverse; Los Angeles' borders encompass dozens of neighborhoods shaped by immigrants, including Chinatown, Little Tokyo, Historic Filipinotown, Little Armenia, Koreatown, Tehrangeles, the Byzantine-Latino Quarter and Thai Town. And every part of town offers plenty of sun, shopping and sightseeing.
Often known by its initials, "L.A.", and nicknamed the "City of Angels", Los Angeles is a world center of business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science, technology, and education. It is home to renowned institutions covering a broad range of professional and cultural fields, and is one of the most substantial economic engines within the United States. In 2008, Los Angeles was named the world's eighth most economically powerful city by Forbes.com, third in the U.S. behind New York City and Chicago. As the home base of Hollywood, it is known as the "Entertainment Capital of the World", leading the world in the creation of motion pictures, television production, video games, and recorded music. The importance of the entertainment business to the city has led many celebrities to call Los Angeles and its surrounding suburbs home.
